Description

8th Beatitude

8th Beatitude- “Happy are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for their is the kingdom of heaven”. 1. Persecuted- to be treated cruelly, and unfairly, especially because of their beliefs 2. Righteousness- to want with all our hearts to do God’s will ( do what is right). 3. To be persecuted for the sake of righteousness make us like Jesus on the cross.

 He did nothing wrong, he suffered for doing

what was right.  Others may make fun of you for doing what is right. 4. You will receive the kingdom of heaven if you are persecuted for what is right. 5. Martyr- someone who is willing to suffer or even die for their love of God.

6. Jesus suffered:  His teaching was rejected.  He was put in prison.  Guards made fun of him, whipped him, and

crowned him with thorns.  He was forced to carry his own cross.

St. Joan of Arc  She had to fight in a war for France.  Many people did not believe that God had

spoken to her in a special way.  She was captured by her enemy and put in prison.  She forgave and prayed for her enemies.  She was put to death by fire.
