One of the main authors of the US Army/US Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Doctrine, FM 3-24. Written while serving under General Petreaus, then Commanding the US Army Combat Arms Command. The Counterinsurgency doctrine was published in December 2006. Visiting Fellow, All Souls College, Oxford University. I was Concurrently a fellow of the Levershulme Programme in War Studies, part of the Oxford University. I was concurrently a fellow in the Levershulme Programme- part of the Department of International Politics. I gave a lecture series on current strategic issues at Oxford University. I also was a distinguished visiting lecturer at the British Joint Services Staff College where I lectured on counterInsurgency strategy. Professor of Comparative Military Studies School of Advanced Air and Space Studies Air University Maxwell AFB, AL Served as faculty member for the USAF advanced school for strategists. Taught courses in military history and thought; developed and taught courses in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency. Military Background 2002- 2004

Retired from the Army Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, with the last assignment as a faculty instructor at the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks PA, where I taught courses on strategy And defense policy for senior military and civilian Defense Department personnel during the summer term. From 2002 to 2004 I produced numerous special studies relating to the Coalition occupation of Iraq. In 2004 I served in Iraq and was assigned to the Coalition Military Training and Advisor Team (CMATT) and worked with the Iraqis to develop future army and air force organizational structures.

1977-2002

Served a total of six years on active duty in the US Army in the US, Germany and Central America. On my first active duty assignment from 1977-79 I served as an intelligence officer in Germany and was directly involved in counterterrorism work and conducted liaison with the German

police and Bundeswehr. I served for 20 years as a Reserve officer and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. I have various awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal (2x), Army Commendation medal and Army Achievement Medal.
