THE DR. BRENDA WATTS JONES ALLIED HEALTH STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS Awarded: Fall Semester of every year The purpose of The Dr. Brenda Watts Jones Allied Health Student Scholarship Fund is to reward academic excellence in the Allied Health Field. A total of four (4) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded beginning Spring Semester. Students will have access to a $1,000 line of credit placed on the student’s account. The funds are to assist the student with tuition, fees, credentialing and licensing certifications and/or books, tools, and program uniforms that can be purchased at the ATC Bookstore. The Atlanta Technical College Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, administers The Dr. Brenda Watts Jones Allied Health Student Scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time (12 semester hours or more) student and must have completed one semester prior to making application. Applicant must be enrolled in a program classified as “Allied Health”. Such programs included but are not limited to – Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Dental Laboratory Technology, Healthcare Science, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Pharmacy Technology, Physical Therapy Assistant, Surgical Technology 2. Applicants must possess a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher (based on a fourpoint system). 3. Applicants must provide a copy of their banner web transcript and grade report from the most current semester (Spring or Summer 2013). The transcript must indicate that the student will be enrolled full time (12 semester hours) for the Fall 2013 semester (semester of award). 4. Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced, one to two-page essay about why they should receive the scholarship and how it will aid them in completing their chosen program. The applicants may include information about why they have chosen the program as their career goal. Other things may be included such as community involvement or background about their personal circumstances that are relevant to the selection process. 5. Applicants must submit two (2) letters of recommendation from an outside source on their behalf. No letters of recommendations will be accepted from relatives or employees of Atlanta Technical College. Each letter MUST be submitted in a sealed envelope along with the student’s application form. 6. A recommendation form (included in application packet) must be completed by an instructor from the college who has taught the student. The instructor should be familiar with the applicant’s academic achievement and work ethics. The form MUST be submitted in a sealed envelope along with the student’s application form. 3 AMOUNT AND DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP 1. The amount of each scholarship awarded shall be $1,000. 2. The funds are to assist the student with tuition, fees, credentialing and licensing certifications and/or books, tools, and program uniforms that can be purchased at the ATC Bookstore. 3. The student must be enrolled at the college at least one (1) semester prior to receiving the scholarship. 4. Scholarships are not transferable between programs and divisions; if a student changes his/her major from one program or division to another, the student forfeits his/her scholarship.

APPLICATION PROCESS The availability of scholarship funding will be advertised during the Summer Semester. Awards will be made during the Fall Semester of each year. 1. Students will be informed via the College’s website, announcements in classes, and campus-wide televised communication system of the availability of this scholarship. 2. Completed applications for Spring scholarship must be submitted to the Office of Institutional Advancement (President’s Office, 2nd Floor Building B) by 5:00 p.m. on August 28, 2013.

3. Incomplete application packets will not be eligible for consideration. All applicants will be contacted and informed of the status of their application via email.
