Who is the Student Regent • Representative of 230,000 students on the governing board of the UC • Primary advocate for access, affordability, and diversity • UC student with at least 2 yrs remaining at UC – Year 1: Student Regent-Designate – Year 2: Student Regent
What does the Student Regent do • Advocacy – To the administration, to state government, to the voters, to the press – Fight for student interests and priorities – Fight for your agenda (& other people’s agendas) – Speaking engagements
What does the Student Regent do • Building student power – Collaborating with statewide student leaders – Educating and empowering students across the system – Developing future student leaders – Using social media to keep constituents informed
What does the Student Regent do • Holding administration accountable – Asking difficult questions on your campus, at OP, and Regents table – Requesting research & data – Developing alternatives to current policy and policy proposals
