A woman’s right to choose an abortion is protected under the 14th Amendment in the first trimester of pregnancy. -States can place restrictions on second trimester and ban abortions during third trimester.

Affirmative Action Affirmative Action a policy giving special consideration to groups that have been disadvantaged historically.

Equality of results – equal rights are not enough, people need to benefit. Affirmative action should be used Equality of opportunities – reverse discrimination occurs when race or gender is used for preferential treatment

California v. Bakke 1978 Supreme Court ruled numerical minority quotas are not permissible but race could be considered in admissions policy. Court supports affirmative action but reluctant to support quotas. Court ruled affirmative action programs must be “narrowly tailored” to achieve “compelling goal”.
