“Systemic coordination of stress responses by insulin signaling.” The major goals of this project are to characterize the role of insulin producing cells in coordinating stress responses throughout the organism. The importance of the endocrine regulation of stress responses for stress tolerance and longevity of the organism will be assessed. Furthermore, the control of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism by insulin producing cells and their role in the age-associated decline of metabolic regulation will be analyzed. 3. “Cross Regulation Between JNK and Insulin Signaling.” The major goals of this project are to characterize the intracellular crosstalk between the JNK pathway and Insulin receptor signal transduction at the molecular level and to assess the role of this interaction in the control of growth and proliferation.
