Being a relative newcomer to the Asian market, can you define the Borzalino style for homeowners here? The Borzalino style and philosophy focuses on our customised designs, which are made to the requirements of each customer. As much as 80 to 100 per cent of the furniture we create can be tailor-made to your exact specifications. The homeowner enjoys freedom in selecting their choice of fabric, wood finishing, leather, buttons and nails to be used for any of the designs in our collection, such as the Moat sofa or the Frisbee chair. We also work with designers to offer a mix of interpretations and influences, including redefining classics such as the chesterfield sofa and the retro style, along with a surprising twist in colours.

What is a key trend in furniture design right now? In my opinion I think that homeowners are looking more and more to the fashion industry for ideas, and that is why Borzalino is collaborating with iconic fashion labels like Jim Thompson for The Moat sofa. You’ll notice that the trends in furnishing design are often heavily influenced by what is seen on the runways. This year, there are a lot of animal prints and camouflage in fashion. so, next year, we may likely see animal prints making a comeback in furniture designs.

What is the most rewarding thing for you to be a part of the family-run business? Although I studied information science, I’ve always loved art. I have creativity in my blood, which I think I inherited from my grandfather, who is the founder of the company. What are some of your favourite Borzalino designs? One of my favourites, which is also a bestseller, is the Frisbee swivel chair. Another popular design is the Moat sofa, which offers hundreds of compositions due to its modular design (parts of the sofa can be moved to the left or the right). Another highlight for me is the Atena sofa, which has rounded edges and a clean silhouette. It just looks so inviting and cosy that you can spend a whole day lounging in its folds.
