Educational background • He made the best distinctive ensemble sounds in the whole western music. • Duke Ellington dropped out of school in the middle of high school year.

When he began • He began to play music in Washington D.C in 1917. • Duke Ellington lead his band for more than half a century!!!!!!

Duke Ellington's childhood background • When Duke Ellington was a kid he grew up in a middle class family • He grew up in a africanamerican community in his grandparents house with his tight-knit family.

His musical background • When he moved to New York in 1923, he spent about several years honing his skills as a bandleader, songwriter, and pianist. • As a teen he became serious about the piano and sought to emulate local ragtime pianist.
