I can identify the important different symbols that represent the United States of America.

Demonstration of Learning (DO) Symbols are things that represent or stand for something else, especially a material object representing something abstract. White House is the residence and workplace of the President. Statue of Liberty stands for freedom and was given to the US from France as a friendship gift. Uncle Sam represents the American Government. American Flag a representation of our original colonies and states. Bald Eagle is the national symbol or bird. Liberty Bell represents American independence.

The Students will understand the important symbols of the United States of America.

The students will be given a sheet of paper with one half of the page having pictures of symbols and the other half will be names of the American symbols including some “throw offs”. The students will be expected to identify and match the name to the picture.

Demonstration of Learning (DO) National Holiday is a day set aside by law when normal activities are suspended or reduced. Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, declaring independence from Great Britain.

For a year-long unit, the students will draw a picture of a certain holiday they are told to draw and then write a sentence about the holiday’s importance. This year-long project will be made into a book for the students to keep and see how their

Veterans Day is the celebration of the people who have served our country’s armed forces.
