---Is the largest US international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, research, teaching. ---Was established in 1946 by US Congress to “enable the government of the US to increase mutual understanding between the people of the US and the people of other countries.” ---Approximately 318,000 “Fulbrighters,” have participated in the Program since its inception more than sixty years ago. The Fulbright US Student Program awards approximately 1,900 new grants annually. ---Currently, the Fulbright Program operates in over 140 countries. Receives primary funding from Congress to the Department of State. Participating governments, host institutions, and foreign countries and the US also contribute through cost sharing, tuition waivers, housing, and benefits.
Program Design
The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, and young professionals, artists and musicians opportunities for personal development and international experience. Most grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school, special projects in the social or life sciences, or a combination.

Types of Grants: Full Grant Generally, Round-trip transportation; Language or orientation courses, where appropriate; Full or partial tuition, in some cases; Some book and research allowances; maintenance for the academic year, based on living costs in the host country; Supplemental health and accident insurance. Fulbright full grants are payable in local currency or U.S. dollars, depending on the country of assignment.

Types of Grants: Travel Travel grants are available only to Germany, Hungary, or Italy. They are available to supplement an award from a source that does not provide funds for travel or to supplement a student's own funds for study. Travel grants provide: • Round-trip transportation to the country where the student will pursue studies for an academic year • Supplemental health and accident insurance • The cost of language or orientation course programs, if available in the host country.

Types of Grants: Fulbright mtvU Awards Up to four awards will be available to pursue projects around
an aspect of international contemporary or popular music as a cultural force for expression. Preference will be given to creative projects that are conveyed in a dynamic fashion and are accompanied by a feasible plan. The 2014-15 Fulbright-mtvU Online Application will open on November 1, 2013. The deadline for submission of the Fulbright-mtvU Online Application is February 28, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Fulbright Business Opportunities Australia: One Fulbright-ANU College of Business and Economics postgraduate scholarship for study in Business or Economics. Finland: One Fulbright/Lappeenranta University of Technology graduate award is available for a student in the fields of business or technology. Mexico: Thirteen Binational Business Internships to enhance knowledge, expertise, and understanding of post-NAFTA Mexico are available for students interested in combining coursework in international business or law with an internship at a Mexico-based company conducting international or legal business. Netherlands: One NAF/Fulbright Duisenberg School of Finance Spain: Fulbright/Instituto de Empresa Grants: One award for full-time study in a one-year International MBA program; One grant for a Master’s in International Management
Fulbright Journalism Grants Germany: Five Professional Journalism Awards for beginning professional journalists or recent graduates in journalism or related fields to conduct independent research and serve as interns or guest journalists at newspapers, publishers or television and radio stations in Germany. Candidates must submit writing samples. Spain: Fulbright/Instituto de Empresa Grants: One grant for Masters in Journalism UK: One Alistair Cooke Award in Journalism for a candidate to pursue the first year of a graduate-level program in Journalism in the UK. There is a possibility of an internship with the BBC for the successful candidate. The award is open to candidates at all degree levels.
UK Summer Institutes Undergraduates (over 18), with at least two years of
undergraduate study left Three, four, five or six week academic and cultural summer program. Explorations of the culture, heritage and history of the UK includes airfare, tuition and fees at the host university/institution, room and board and in some cases a small daily allowance

Fulbright Critical Language Enhancement Award The Critical Language Enhancement Award provides an
opportunity for Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantees to receive three to six months of intensive language study in addition to their research or study grants. The award provides a monthly living stipend and tuition reimbursement for grantees to pursue language training in the host country. Eligible Languages: Arabic (all dialects), Bahasa Indonesia, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin only), Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Russian, and Urdu. Eligible Countries: China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Morocco, Russia

Factors Affecting Selection II ---Ratio between the number of awards offered in a given country and the number of applications received. Therefore, if your project can be accomplished in a less competitive country, your chances for success in the competition will be enhanced by applying in the less stringent country competition. What’s Next? If you are interested, you apply for the scholarship in your junior (or senior) year. There will be a workshop in April for those applying for the next round of scholarships In the meantime, it is imperative that you begin the following: Decide which country you wish to study in Undertake language study (the scholarship expects you to have the ability to participate fully as a student in that country) Establish contacts with professors here (for reference letters and advice) Learn as much as you can about the country you have chosen (following international news, history, culture, etc)
