Strategic Learning Partnerships Glasgow North East, Glasgow North West, Glasgow South • Senior Managers from Glasgow Life and Head Teachers from secondary schools. • Committed to providing leadership and innovation to ensure young people ‘gain experiences that last a lifetime’. • Ensure all young people have equal access to all opportunities to participate whether its sport, arts, music or learning. • The partnership will look to promote a culture of aspiration in all our young people

Local Learning Forums

• 1 in every secondary school chaired by Depute Head. • Local Learning Forums develop interesting programmes and activities. • Links school activity with community activity and wider. • Monitors and reviews on a regular basis.

Successes

• Chat N Chill (similar to The Big Eat) now runs over a variety of lunchtimes in John Paul Academy, Cleveden Secondary and Springburn Academy. o

In the first 7 weeks from November to December 2011, Chat N Chill Springburn had 429 attendances.

• 81 pupils attended an S1 conference delivered in St Roch’s with 6 senior pupils’ assisting in the development and running of the event. • 59, S5 and S6 have completed a Volunteering Taster Programme at St Roch’s Secondary.

• Delivery of John Muir Award for 178 S1 pupils 2011/2012 at All Saints

Successes Cont…..

• Pupils are receiving free gym inductions and free access for 6 weeks to Glasgow Life facilities with the opportunity of reduced rates thereafter. • Assisted schools in the delivery of Duke of Edinburgh through access to equipment and Glasgow Life staff that supported school staff on the expeditions with the pupils. • Glasgow Life provides staff to support Abercorn Secondary's successfully run after-school Youth Group. • There has been a notable increase in participation in physical activity through cycling projects and healthy walks.

Working in Schools (XL Princes Trust, Em-prove, Lunch club activities, after school programmes, mentoring, volunteering) Streetwork (engaging with young people in range of settings of their choice) Youth Clubs (Activity based sessions – arts, music, drama, sport) Issue based work (specific focus groups work on key issues or groups) Sports clubs – participation, coaching, volunteering Diversionary work (interventions targeting individuals and groups to promote positive life choices) Accreditation (Duke of Edinburgh, John Muir, Dynamic Youth, Youth Achievement)

Work with Young People Examples During 2010/11 • 24 completed Youth Achievement Awards with 103 completing Dynamic Youth Award • Glasgow Communities supported 762 XL (Princes Trust) participants. • Glasgow Young Scot Card increased by 2.5% with 38,910 cards issued to 12-18 year olds. • 62 young people produced their own version of the Glasgow Boys paintings which were displayed within Kelvingrove • 213 children and young people from 9 schools across north Glasgow have received gym inductions and have taken part in a 10-week Activ8 Gym programme. • 1465 young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award across the city during 2010/11. • 110 young people participating youth skateboarding activities introduced in West of the city in 2010/11.
