FACTS ABOUT LEONE

He was born in 1887 and died in 1954.  He was an Italian scientist. 

CONTRIBUTION

TO

FORENSICS

Lattes created a procedure to use dried bloodstains and grouped them in groups such as A, B, AB, and O.  Lattes discovered this new procedure in 1915.  The procedure relied on specific antibodies found in the bloodstains to determine the blood type.  The procedure is still used by scientists today. 

HOW IT AFFECTED

THE

WORLD

A woman found bloodstains on her husband’s shirt and accused him of adultery. The husband asked for help to prove his loyalty, and Lattes used his procedure to determine that the blood was that husband’s.  A man was suspected of murder because of the bloodstains found on his coat. Lattes used his procedure and the bloodstains did not match the blood type of the victim, thus making the man innocent. 
