Form «CLASS»

Swimming group: «GROUP»

Dear Parent/Carer Here at CCA we believe in the delivery of high quality PE. To help us to achieve this we are going to work closely with the pupils and give them an increased level of responsibility within their PE, Games and Swimming lessons. Firstly, children are required to bring the correct PE kit to their lessons; this is described on the reverse of the letter and includes specialist equipment such as gum shields and shin pads. On occasions where children are excused from lessons through illness or injury, it is their responsibility to bring with them a note from their parent, guardian or carer. The note should be written in the pupil’s day book. If the illness/injury results in the PE and games lessons being missed for more than a fortnight, a medical note will be required. Any pupil without a note will be expected to take part in the lesson as normal and, if necessary, kit will be provided. Those pupils who either forget all or part of their PE kit/specialist equipment or note on three separate occasions within one half term will be encouraged to attend one of our after school sports clubs to make up the time missed. On such occasions a minimum of 24 hour notice will be given to parents/guardians/carers. The school swimming timetable commences the week beginning 23rd September. To enable your child to make good progress and enjoy their swimming lessons they have been placed within a group of pupils that are of similar ability. Therefore it is important that children take note of the swimming group number that appears at the top of this letter. The timetable overleaf identifies when they will be swimming during the school year. For swimming lessons, pupils will need navy or black swim wear and those with long hair must wear a hat. The wearing of goggles is permitted for swimming but a permission note from a parent/carer must be handed to the teacher before the lesson. If pupils are unable to swim due to medical issues, illness or injury, a note will be expected. Pupils excused from swimming will remain in school and if appropriate join the games lessons that take place at the same time. Those pupils in year 5 & 7 will leave school at the end of assembly and walk to the swimming pool at Alleynes High School. Those in year 6 will need to arrive at school at 8.40, ready to walk to the swimming pool at 8.45. Finally, throughout the year pupils are expected to take part in a diverse range of sports. The aim of our broad curriculum is to provide the opportunity for all pupils to find an activity they can enjoy and excel in. To complement the activities covered within the curriculum, there is a well-planned and diverse programme of extra-curricular clubs. It is hoped that by delivering a wide range of sports and activities during the year there will be something to engage and motivate everyone. There will also be many opportunities throughout the academic year for pupils to take part in inter-school competitions and the support of family and friends will be welcomed on these occasions. Thank you in anticipation of your ongoing support. Yours sincerely

Esther Rutherford
