ROAD MAP to LEADING a BIBLE STUDY Workshop leader: Janice King Philippians 1:9-11 And this is my prayer, that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God. 1.

How to begin? Have a desire, pray and plan. Talk to your Pastor. Do a survey. Have a promotion: kick-off event. Discuss what topics to study. Set a starting date?_________________________________________ Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. I Corinthians 2:9

Who will lead? Have a primary leader/teacher and a co-leader. Make a commitment to be faithful. Pray, ask for wisdom. Be prepared Leader? __________________________ Co-leader? __________________________ And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men (women) who will be able to teach others also. II Timothy 2:2

Who will teach? You, a friend, a pastor’s wife, a Sunday School teacher – teaching is a spiritual gift. (If God lays on your heart to organize a Bible study, don’t be surprised if He leads you to teach it!)

Teacher? _______________________________ And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, …but in the power of God. I Corinthians 2:4-5

Who will come? Women with a common bond, friendship factor moms, retirees, neighbors, co-workers, unbeliever, new believer, seekers Common interests: walkers, crafters, etc. How many ladies? 3-15 Who?__________________________________________________________________ Titus 2 - women mentoring women

When to have it? When? Sunday School class a week day morning, afternoon, evening How long? At least an hour, not more than 2 How often? Every week every other week once a month For: 6 weeks 12 weeks Sept-June seasonal (Lent) When?_____________________________________________ To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Where to have it? Be comfortable. Provide chairs and a table (and a coffee pot!) your church a home Christian bookstore non-believer turf: community center café picnic table Skype facetime Where?_____________________________________________ …they were all with one accord in one place. Acts 2:1

How to have it? Be prepared: have the room set up and the coffee made Time: start on time and finish on time Curriculum: stick to the topic Allow time for questions and socializing afterwards How? __________________________________________ Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31

What to study? Topic relevant to the group, for Bible study and spiritual growth Inductive Bible study Topical Bible Study DVD Bible series Bible study books from your local Christian bookstore or on-line What? _________________________________________ Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman … II Timothy 2:15

PS (plus somemore!) Food! You don’t have to eat at every meeting – make it a special treat Coffee/tea available or bring your own Missions Project: discuss, choose and support Child care: encourage mom’s not to bring them or discuss options Be flexible, sensitive and open for changes in format or style
