Dear Parent,

Parent Letter

As part of the fifth grade English Language Arts curriculum for Gifted and Talented, each student will demonstrate his/her knowledge of the research process. This extended project will refine the student’s ability to generate how and why questions to help clarify and refine a research topic. In order to accomplish this task, each student has selected a “Burgess Elementary Saves the World” topic. Each student is expected to complete all preliminary research, tasks and a presentation by the deadlines given. All genres will be studied in class and students will be given time to locate found items for their project. While lessons will be explained in class, the majority of the work on the responses and created items will be done independently outside of class. Students will be graded using rubrics throughout the project. When items are turned in they will be graded and counted as class work grades. All graded items are to be kept in a portfolio that will be graded at the end of the project along with the presentation. This final grade will count as a test grade in the second quarter. Please sign and have your child return the contract below signifying your awareness of these requirements. Please feel free to contact me [email protected] with any questions and/or concerns. Sincerely, Angie Smith Topic: _________________________________________________________ Student’s name: ___________________________________________________ Student’s signature _________________________________________________ Parent’s signature: __________________________________________________
