Once you’re received your Study Permit, you have 2 options:

Option 1- Open a Scotiabank account while still in India If still in India, apply for a Scotiabank StartRight® personal deposit account by filling out a Customer Referral Form at any Scotiabank Branch or any Kotak Mahindra Branch. •Our 5 Scotiabank branches are located in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Bengalaru •To locate the nearest Kotak Mahindra Bank Branch, refer to the branch locator: http://www.kotak.com/bank/common/atm_branch_default.htm

Bring the following documents to complete the Account Referral Form: •Passport •Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) •Study Permit •Letter of Acceptance from Canadian Educational Institution *For students studying in the province of Quebec, a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) is also required.

Note: You can open your personal deposit account with Scotiabank in Canada. Money from your GIC will be paid into this bank account after you land in Canada. Use the http://maps.scotiabank.com/en/index.php link to identify a convenient Scotiabank branch in Canada

The Scotiabank branch locator helps you identify which branch is closest to your campus or place of residence. Documents needed to open a Scotiabank account When you first visit the Scotiabank branch, inform them that you have a GIC and produce the following documents to open a personal deposit account and activate your GIC: Welcome Package (which includes the Scotiabank Student GIC Program- SSGP Disbursement Schedule) Valid Passport Letter of Enrolment from a Canadian educational institution (or a student ID card) Study Permit (IMM 1442 is the most commonly used form)

Accessing Your GIC Funds All payments of principal and interest will be paid to your Scotiabank personal deposit account in accordance with the following schedule:

• Initial principal payment of $2,000 CAD on the day the Scotiabank personal deposit account is opened. • Four (4) subsequent principal payments of $2,000 CAD will be made every two (2) months beginning two months after the initial payment is made. Any principal balance remaining on the Maturity Date will be paid to you on the Maturity Date.

Product Disclosures 1. Subject to meeting Scotiabank’s credit criteria and security requirements. An unsecured credit card may be available up to certain credit limits; a secured credit card requires security equal to 100% of approved credit limit for Foreign Workers and Permanent Residents and 120% of approved credit limit for International Students. Credit card security can be cash security, Canada Savings Bonds or Guaranteed Investment Certificate. In addition, to be eligible for a personal borrowing product, you must be a Canadian resident and have reached the age of majority. 2. Qualifying students are full-time students enrolled at a Canadian university, community college, CEGEP or other recognized post-secondary institution. To take advantage of the Student Banking Advantage Plan account benefits, you will need to provide your branch with proof that you are enrolled full-time at a qualifying post-secondary institution each academic year prior to November 30th. When you are no longer enrolled full-time or you have not presented proof of enrolment, the plan will be removed and the account will automatically be converted to an account that is suitable to you based on your recent transaction behaviour. Personal identification requirements must be met.

3. The Getting There Savings Program for Youth is available to customers under 19 years of age. The Getting There Savings Program for Youth account has no monthly Account fees. All other fees not covered by your banking package will continue to apply, including fees charged by other financial institutions and access fees to use non-Scotiabank banking machines (e.g. Interac††, VISA* or PLUS* fees). Cardholder service fees continue to apply for using cross border debit service. Please see the Day-to-Day Banking Companion Booklet for further details about these services and fees. 4. 10% discount applies to the full purchase price (excluding taxes) and excludes Tim Horton’s and alcoholic beverage purchases. Interest rate for purchases for both SCENE VISA card and the L'earn card is 19.99%; cash advances, balances transfers and Scotia® VISA Cheques are 21.99%.
