The Lone Star State

Texas is a big state with many important symbols.

One of our most famous symbols is

Flags are symbols.

Texas has had six different flags in its history.

This is the special flag Texas has today. It is red, white, and blue, like the U.S. flag, but it only has one star.

Texas has a nickname. It is known as the Lone Star State.

We say the Texas pledge. "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."

Texas, our Texas! All hail the mighty state! Texas, our Texas! So wonderful so great! Boldest and grandest, Withstanding ev'ry test; O Empire wide and glorious, You stand supremely blest. State Song

Buildings can be symbols. This is our state capitol.

This is the State Seal.

This seal is on the floor of the capitol rotunda under the dome.

This monument is for the Battle at San Jacinto.

Sam Houston led the Texans to victory for Independence when they won the battle at San Jacinto.

The state flower of Texas is the Bluebonnet.

Texans are proud of their state and its symbols!
