Ok, So how do I do this? • Think of the writing as an argument: – You must have the opinion or topic – You must have facts or statements that support the opinion or topic • These have to be related to the topic • These should prove the overall argument

How to think about it: Three Examples • Who is the Best musician alive? – Record Sales, Awards, and musical achievements. – Length of Career. – Career outside of music industry. Humanitarian efforts.

Breaking Down the Essay • The five-paragraph essay should have these elements: – Introductory paragraph. “Hook” – Three supporting details. “Proof” – Concluding paragraph. “Summary”

• You MUST think about these three factors BEFORE writing: – Focus – What is the Prompt Asking? – Audience – Who are you writing to? – Purpose – What kind of paper am I writing?
