Helen Keller’s loss 

Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 27, 1880. Her infancy was normal until, at a year and a half of age, she contracted meningitis. The disease rendered her both deaf and blind. The next years were harsh for her family, as they knew of no way to reach through her double disabilities to communicate with her. As for herself, she was imprisoned in her body, and lonely, unable to make her needs and desires known.

Considering we have read, seen, and acted her story so far, let’s take a step back and consider if we suffered such a huge loss how we would respond to it.

This is about sacrifice: 

Look at your list and consider what item would be easiest to sacrifice from your list. What could you give up and still be okay? Now consider this for the rest of your list…and rank them 1-5.  

1=Give up first 5= give up last.

Free write time: 

What makes this last sacrifice so important to you? Remember to write vividly….please consider how your life would be different without it?? There is no wrong answer…just write your thoughts as they come and really think about this.

Now that you considered your own sacrifice, what makes your loss different from Helen Keller’s?

Good afternoon! 

Please take out your homework (journal) for collection. Please take out your study guide questions and open up The Miracle Worker to Act 3 ( p. 90). HW: Complete study guide questions (17 and 18)

“When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another. “ Helen Keller

Focus on the “miracles” that Helen is taught…

Directions: They say that you learn something new everyday, so as we read Act 3, please note all the different things that Annie has taught Helen. As we read, listen, and watch Act 3, please compose a list of the words that Helen has learned, the types or words, her actions, as well as how her manners have developed.

Good afternoon! 

Please take out your study guide questions for a HW check and copy down tonight’s homework. HW: Complete study guide questions.

Keller quote of the day: 

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” 

Helen Keller 

What door has been opened for HELEN??? How? And why?

Good afternoon! 
