Professional Experience Dec 2011 – Present Freelance Consultant Role and Activities: Continuing my activities as a Print Consultant to further assist companies in systems analysis, training, procurement, lean manufacturing, sales, adding value, obtaining the best from their facilities and offering bespoke packages and contractual periods including prodjects within the Automotive and logistics industrys. The reason for this is due to simliar synergies between the Print and Automotive sectors allowing me to carry over certain skill sets including my Customer services and sales skills. This work has been ongoing on a monthly contractual basis.

2010 - 2011 Folio Print Finishing Ltd Job Title: Operations Director. Role and Activities: Before my consultancy period came to an end with Folio Print Finishing Ltd I was offered a permanent position. The operation at Folio is very diverse and represents ongoing challenges for my skill sets as I am constantly evolving, adapting and learning in this high-pressure role. My role was structured around production which included development of customer’s services, sales, estimating and overseeing specialized projects with explicit deadlines. Also ensuring that we were producing work to the highest of standards and finding ways to add further value to the business and our clients. Constantly reviewing costs in all areas within Folio and ensuring that I and my team were fully aware of overall sales and performance figures were being achieved. Other areas of my activities include: 

Managed the installation of a new MIS system from the procurement stage, additional IT equipment, training and the complete inauguration in to the production facility, leading to real time data caption and more importantly tighter financial control which lead to efficient commercial and financially based decision making for myself and my team.



Through driving the production systems, developing individuals and the implementation of new service lines helped Folio Bristol to post the best PTP in over a decade and an increase of over 255% on the previous year.



Specialized, technically challenging equipment and service lines enabling Folio to compete in new areas leading towards new markets returning stable and profitable returns.



Incorporated a new venture in to Folio by the acquisition of a small but high value company that produced bespoke and small run Hardcover, Foil blocking bespoke cartons and POS pre-production runs.



Strategy planning short and long term, which incorporated board reports showing detailed figures and methods.



Implementation of new shift patterns, contracts and the reduction of labor costs.



Regular communication and site visits with current and prospective clients ensuring our services and quality fulfilled their requirements of Folio.

2009 - 2010 Freelance Consultant Role and Activities: My role as a Print Consultant was aiding companies in systems analysis, training, procurement, lean manufacturing, sales, adding value, obtaining the best from their facilities and offering bespoke packages and contractual periods. This is supported by over 20 years in the print trade and 12 years were at a senior level of management. It was through my consultancy channels that I was introduced to Folio Print Finishing Ltd and began a period of successful consultancy within that business and implementing systems and processes as described above.

1999 - 2009 Precision Colour Printing – Telford Job Title: Bindery / Print Manager The reason for my move in to an established company was to further my knowledge within a highly pressurized area. Working for PCP has proven to further extend my abilities within all areas of the printing and finishing trade. Being responsible for over 100 full time employees within the Bindery and at times a further 30/40 temporary agency staff. I was responsible for a considerable amount of training, which ensures the smooth day to day running of service, maintenance and production. I had 1 line Manager and 4 supervisors reporting to myself enabling me to pursue other projects within my field at PCP. I was headhunted for PCP to run their Bindery. This had only been set up some 18 months previous and to take the department further they needed a fully experience team leader to handle the expansion. This involved taking the staffing level from 14 to 100, ensuring 24/7 production and management coverage. Modernization of equipment, procedures and automation were also a requisite. My prime role is handling all work post press to the final delivery point; this involves logistics movement internally, scheduling all machines, handwork /fulfillment, trade work and delivery. Along with this; 

I have been involved in many press installations including a £10.5 million installation of a 32pp M.A.N rotaman press, new press hall and ancillary equipment.



All negotiating of costs for all brought in services, capital equipment, contract negotiations, transport etc.



Working closely with Production and Financial Directors in order to develop future strategies.



Purchasing of all finishing equipment raging form 2 new automated stitching lines, the first Burhs 3000 UK mailing line followed shortly by a second line, perfect binding line , used equipment along with guillotines & folders.



Working alongside our maintenance and installation team to ensure a successful and problem free installation.



Working closely with customers when new and complicated projects are in there infancy.



Implementing a fulfillment element of PCP that can have between 4 and 25 personnel per shift.



All recruitment and disciplinary procedures.



UK and foreign travel was a regular occurrence.



Building a complete mailing department within PCP from production, administration and systems.



In 2007 I was responsible for the specification, installation and commissioning of an automated perfect binding line.



From June 2007 I also assumed the role of Duty Production Manager a role that gave me the opportunity to oversee the entire `production` facility at PCP encompassing the prepress department, pressrooms (both web and sheet-fed, finishing and dispatch.

1997 - 1999 Convertaprint trade finishers – Birmingham Job Title - Production Manager The move to Convertaprint was an important and interesting addition to my career portfolio. Convertaprint was a trade finisher, which had the capabilities to trim, fold, stitch, bind, sew, laminate/spot UV and fulfillment. I was approached to run Convertaprint as Production manager and optimise production. My duties in brief were to expand the production capabilities by maximising work flow, staffing levels and shifts, dealing with printers of all respects, sheet fed, web etc, quoting, giving accurate and responsive production schedules and technical support.

1987 – 1997 Industrial Press Ltd – Coventry Job Title: Finishing Foreman Commenced my 4-year apprenticeship concentrating on Finishing and print related skills. During this time I also attended Matthew Boulton College gaining my City & Guilds. I was promoted to the ranks of finishing Foreman at the age of only 22. Prior to leaving I was asked to consider the position of assistant works manager. I declined the offer as I felt I needed to gain further experience outside Industrial Press.
