Mission Statement

St. John’s Parish family prayerfully worships, studies, teaches and lives our faith in Jesus Christ. A Note From Father Yanta Sing a Little Louder After a speech, pro life activist Penny Lea was approached by an old man. Weeping, he told her the following story: “I lived in Germany during the Nazi holocaust. I considered myself a Christian. I attended church since I was a small boy. We had heard the stories of what was happening to the Jews, but like most people today in this country, we tried to distance ourselves from the reality of what was really taking place. What could anyone do to stop it? A railroad track ran behind our small church, and each Sunday morning we would hear the whistle from a distance and then the clacking of the wheels moving over the track. We became disturbed when one Sunday we noticed cries coming from the train as it passed by. We grimly realized that the train was carrying Jews. They were like cattle in those cars! Week after week that train whistle would blow. We would dread to hear the sound of those old wheels because we knew that the Jews would begin to cry out to us as they passed our church. It was so terribly disturbing! We could do nothing to help these poor miserable people, yet their screams tormented us. We knew exactly at what time the train whistle would blow, and we decided the only way to keep from being so disturbed by the cries was to start singing our hymns. By the time the train came rumbling past the church yard, we were singing at the top of our voices. If some of the screams reached our ears, we'd just sing a little louder until we could hear them no more. Years have passed and no one talks about it much anymore, but I can still hear them crying out for help. God forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians, yet did nothing to intervene. Now, so may years later, I see it happening all over again in America. God forgive you Americans for you have blocked out the screams of millions of your own children. The holocaust is here. The response is the same as it was in my countrySilence!” Sing a Little Louder was sent to me this week by Pro-life Action Ministries. I thought I would share it with you. Sometimes we need a little jolt to wake us up. When I had visited Poland and Germany, the place that my ancestors came from, I also visited the concentration camps of Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Dachau. These places were built to house and exterminate the “unwanted”. While visiting Poland, I found that at least 1.1 million prisoners were exterminated at Auschwitz, around 90 percent of them Jewish. And while visiting Germany I found that a total of 2,720 clerics were recorded as imprisoned at Dachau, some 2,579 (or 94.88%) were Roman Catholics. I still have a rock that looks like a face crying out on my desk from the compound where my brother priests were housed, to remind me the evil that had happened. What a horrible and dark reality. Further, we know the Nazis performed horrific medical experiments on the “unwanted”. Every day, when I went to Mass on my visit, I would pray for God’s mercy and healing of the evil and horror that had happened here. I prayed especially for all those who were involved with such darkness and evil, that they could and would find God’s mercy and healing. Please join me, on this Friday January 22nd to pray for God’s mercy and healing for our Country. As we face the reality that we as a Nation have allowed the extermination of over 56 million of our “unwanted” brothers and sisters since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. It reflects with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard.” Friday, January 22 is a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”. “In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.” Fr. Families Moving Forward Volunteers Needed Mark your calendar for the next Families Moving Forward hosting week, January 31 - February 7. We will need many volunteers to help make this week a success including, set up/take down crew, dinner hosts, evening hosts, overnight hosts, and Saturday helpers. Special Mortgage Appeal Update

Thank you to everyone who has given to the special mortgage appeal! We originally were hoping to send in a lump sum payment of $100,000, but your generosity has been amazing and we now have $166,000 to pay towards our mortgage. We will continue to collect donations through January 31st and will make the lump sum payment in the beginning of February. Again, thank you for your gift of stewardship to our parish!

Knights of Columbus Corner

The 2016 Catholic Services Appeal is about to kick-off! Faith Formation January Bible Study A Biblical Walk Through the Mass Sessions start this coming Tuesday, January 19 and will meet every Tuesday for five weeks from 9:30am-11am. YDisciple for Young Women We have group leaders for YDisciple for young women between the ages of 16 and 18! In today’s second reading, St. Paul tells the Corinthians (and us) that all of our gifts are from God and that they are given, not for ourselves alone, but for the common good. But the generosity of God knows no limits, the miracle at Cana reminds us that whenever we faithfully do as God asks, He can change our gifts of water into wine!
