State President’s Message
Lighting Up Lives – Celebrating Fifty Years of Service Ashley Koby
We have just had our first CGP state board meeting and a very successful officers training the weekend of February 4.
Paul Bowers has offered to host a “Yammer with Paul” session focused on CGP on March 15 at 1:30 p.m.. Please join in and be thinking about questions to ask.
The board voted to increase our service hour goal to 70,000 this year and continue what we started last year with not having a membership goal number. We are however encouraging each chapter to maintain or increase membership when compared to 2011. We also voted to raffle off a 2012 Kia Sorrento with tickets being sold between June 1 and September 6 with the drawing being held at the Energy Exchange meeting on Sept 6. The raffle will benefit Electric Kids. As far as officers training, we had 154 people in attendance and shared a tremendous amount of information and ideas. Paul and Karen Bowers attended as well as Mike Anderson and Jeff Petrea, all showing their support and encouragement for the year. We ended the day with a great motivational speech by Martha Lanier, author of Pink Lemonade, who challenged us to overcome our fears, use the skills of those around us, and live our best life. Don’t forget to join the Citizens of Georgia Power Group on Yammer to share upcoming events, meetings, projects, or best practices across the state. Go to Yammer.com to learn more and to sign up. You don’t want to miss an upcoming Yammer with Paul.

Heart of Georgia/Macon Has Employee Appreciation Breakfast Bright and early Thursday morning, February 9, members of the Heart of Georgia Chapter arrived to cook breakfast for employees. Breakfast was served at 7:00 a.m. as a way to say “thank you” to the employees for their support of the chapter during 2011 and let them know some of the things planned for 2012. State Coordinator Peggy Grubb shared information about Educational Loan Fund, Electric Kids, and the Georgia Power Family House with the group. Door prizes were given away, and great food, fun and fellowship was enjoyed prior to everyone starting a SAFE workday. Many of the employees chose to join or rejoin during the breakfast.

Jefferson Street set a goal to prepare 200 meals for the homeless through their annual Lunch for Lunch project. Employees donated items to help pack lunches for the homeless through donations to the Crossroads charity. Fifty-five volunteers came together during their lunch hour and assembled 730 sandwiches and 690 complete lunch Bags which also included fruit. They were delivered to Crossroads. Here’s what a note of thanks said…
“We are truly honored that your team chose Crossroads to assist. Sorry I did not bring a larger vehicle but I had no idea there would be that many. Thank goodness you had a van!!!! “Thank you” sounds like such a trite thing to say so I wish I could ‘box up’ the joy you are bringing to those we serve but there would not be a box large enough to contain that.”

Cardiac Café is an annual presentation of the American Heart Association in Macon. It is a most successful fundraiser!
Heart of Georgia/Macon The Heart of Georgia/Macon Chapter has been providing volunteers to set up, decorate, and serve as hosts for one of the largest events of the year for the Heart Association for 22 years. Tina Stewart, chapter member, has served as the chair for the event for 15 years. Eleven members decorated the City Auditorium, escorted guests to their tables and cleaned up afterwards at the Cardiac Café. This year, 1500 people attended and the event raised $100,000 for the American Heart Assn. Great job, Heart of Georgia!
