Description

REVERE PUBLIC SCHOOLS PowerSchool Parent Portal: Acceptable Use Policy The Revere Public Schools is giving you access to your child’s grades and attendance through PowerSchool as another way for parents, teachers and administrators to communicate during the school year. More importantly, it will help us work more closely with you to help your child succeed in school. You will be given a username and password once you have read this document and submitted a signed PowerSchool Parent-Portal Access Form to your child’s school. Do not share your username/password with your child or anyone else who should not have access to your child’s records. Please read the following Acceptable Use Guidelines: 1. Username and passwords are to be kept confidential. a. The district accepts no responsibility in the event the username and password is shared, given, stolen or in any other way becomes the possession of a person other than the parent/guardian. b. In the event a username/password is compromised or forgotten, the parent/guardian must go to their child’s school in person to have the password changed. This is to ensure the identity of the parent/guardian and the security of your child’s confidential information. 2. Only ONE parent/guardian username and password will be issued per family. It is the parent’s decision whether one or both parents will have access to the single family account. Non-custodial parents wishing access to the parent portal need to contact the school principal who will then follow procedures for the sharing of student records as outlined in M.G.L. 603CMR 23.07 (5)(a). 3. All parent access to PowerSchool is monitored. The Parent Access Log lists date of login, time accessed and duration of login (in minutes) by the parent. You will be able to check your child’s progress 24 hours a day/7 days a week, although there is no hard and fast rule teachers will generally post their grades within one week after the assessment is given. Realize the online grade book should only be used as a reference point. There will be differences among teachers in this area; some teachers may use a daily homework grade while others may opt for a mid-term or final homework grade. Some teachers may enter a score of “0” until an assignment has been made up while others may make use of “missing assignment”. Different types of grades may also be weighted differently. For example, one teacher may count homework as 10% of the term grade while another teacher counts homework as 5% of the term grade. All grades are considered estimates until they become final when report cards are printed. 4. Attendance concerns should be addressed by calling your child’s school office – not the teacher. 5. The Parent Portal will generally be available at anytime, however the system may be down due to planned maintenance or an unplanned outage. If this occurs please log in at a later time. Terms of Use: 1. I understand that the school district is providing this access as a privilege, not a right, and if abused in any way, my account will be suspended and/or terminated without recourse. This includes attempting to change attendance or grades through the parent portal, attempting to log in through another parent’s account or attempting to access another student’s information. 2. I understand that email and other communications via the Internet are not guaranteed to be private. 3. I understand that Revere Public Schools is not liable for any damages to my personal equipment incurred when connecting to the PowerSchool System. 4. In consideration of using the Revere Public School District network and having access to my child’s grades and attendance, I hereby release the Revere Public School District and its officers, employees and agents from any claims and damages from my use of the system. 5. I understand that the school will continue to send report cards home at the end of each marking term. Technical Assistance: If you have a technical problem accessing the PowerSchool Parent Portal, click the link provided at the end of the Frequently Asked Questions document on the RPS website and explain the problem.
