Roman Krainz was born in Klagenfurt, Austria in November 1985. Studies He started his musical education at the age of six at the Music School of Klagenfurt, Austria with Milan Vit. At the age of 15 he graduated there and entered the Carinthian Music Conservatory in the class of Prof. Helfried Fister. He finished his high school studies in 2004 with honors at the Mössingerstraße High School. In fall 2005, Roman Krainz succeeded to enter the “Kunstuniversität Graz”, the music university of Graz, Austria, in the class of Univ.Prof. Sylvia-Elisabeth Viertel, a well-known teacher and violin player, former concertmaster in Germany and Danmark. He finished his IGP-studies (the graduation for violin teacher in Austria) with honors and recommendations of the jury in February 2009 in the Carinthian Music Conservatory and is looking forward finishing his solo violin performance studies at the Music University of Graz in 2010. Roman Krainz also graduated as first student of the Carinthian Music Conservatory in the Jazz-Violin class of Max Grosch. He is currently studying abroad at the John J. Cali School of Music in Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA with Boris Kucharsky and the Shanghai String Quartett in Fall 2009. Concerts Roman Krainz performed concerts as a member of well-known orchestras where he played in all positions, such as concertmaster, leader of the second violins but also in Tutti positions (substitute of the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra, member of the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra, Youtube Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Mozartiade Orchestra, AlpeAdria Youth Orchestra, European Master Orchestra, SFK Youth Symphony Orchestra and many more). Roman Krainz also performed as a member of chamber music groups (especially the Philos Quartett, Scripcaru Quartett and the Trio Tesaro) as well as a soloist like performing Henri Vieuxtemps’ 5th concerto with the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra at the Big Concert Hall of the Konzerthaus Klagenfurt at the age of 16 after winning the audition “Junge Solisten” or with Vivaldi’s 4 seasons with the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra Vienna in 2009 and more. He gave concerts in Austria and all over the world like in Japan (e.g. Kawasaki Muza Hall, Sapporo Concert Hall) USA (Carnegie Hall in 2009 as only Austrian participant at the concert as winner of the YTSO Competition), China (Shenzhen, Shanghai, Xian, Xouzhou, Beijing and many more), Turkey (Istanbul 2008), the Netherlands, Croatia, Finland, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Slovenia, Germany and more. He also performed in a lot of Carinthian Orchestras and Festivals, like the Carinthian Summer or Musikwochen Millstatt. Competitions In May 2009, Roman Krainz won a special prize with his string quartet for the best Dvorak interpretation at the final round of the CRDM International Chambermusic Competition in Majano (UD), Italy. In 2004 and 2002, he won 1st prizes at the “Prima La Musica” competition for young violinists in Austria. He was finalist at the International Competition in Italy “Giovani Violinisti Studenti A. e V. Marcosig”. In 2001, he was also a laureate of the first Philips Etude Competition for Strings. Masterclasses Roman Krainz got further mentoring from masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov, Benjamin Schmid, Igor Volochine, Jernej Brence for solistic work, with chamber music he worked with members of the Artis Quartett Vienna and the Carmina Quartett (e.g. Othmar Müller, Herbert Kefer, Stephan Goerner, Brian Finlayson), he was influenced by his teacher a.o. Univ.Prof. Michael Schnitzler, former concertmaster of the “Wiener Symphoniker”. He worked with conductors like Michael Tilson Thomas (Chief Conductor New World Symphony and Youtube Symphony Orchestra), Manfred Honeck (Wiener Jeunesse Orchester), Johannes Fritsch (Chief Conductor Graz Philharmonic Orchestra), Wolfgang Böck, Wolfgang Czeipek, Ernest Hoetzl and many others.
