She took this decision as an American citizen because she felt the law was not fair. Of course her action was forbidden in the South of the USA at the time so she was sent to jail. She also lost her job and had to move to find a new job. Parks' action was not the first of its kind because black people wanted to eat and drink in the same restaurants as white people.
