The Competition Chicago, June 10, 1922 International Design Competition for the Chicago’s new headquartes. The Chicago Tribune, thecity's oldest and most important newspaper, offered a $50,000 prize for the winning design of “The most beautiful and distinctive office building in the world”

Eliel Saarinen

Gottlieb Eliel Saarinen (August 20, 1873, Rantasalmi, Finland – July 1, 1950, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, United States) was a Finnish architect who became famous for his art nouveau buildings in the early years of the 20th century.

Woolworth Building

Saarinen's tower took the second place and anticipated the coming impact of stripped-down modernism on building form.

American Radiator Building

It is well-known that Saarinen's design strongly influenced the American Radiator Building.

Gulf Building

The 1929 Gulf Building in Houston is a full realization of that Saarinen desing.

W. Madison

181 West Madison Street Building is also thought to be inspired by Saarinen's design.

Walter Gropius Walter Adolph Georg Gropius (May 18, 1883 – July 5, 1969) was a German architect and founder of the Bauhaus School who, along with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture.

The third place entry was submitted by Walter Gropius, best known as the founder of the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. His design for the Tribune building shares many of the same attributes as his ironic design for the Bauhaus Building.

Cincinnati Union Terminal Fellheimer's Obelisk

Honorable mention went to Alfred T. Fellheimer (March 9, 1875–1959), known as a designer of theaters and railroad stations. His most famous work is the fabulous Cincinatti Union Terminal.

Adolf Loos

Adolf Loos (10 December 1870 – 23 August 1933) was a Moravian-born Austrian architect. He was influential in European Modern architecture, in his essay Ornament and Crime he repudiated the florid style of the Vienna Secession, the Austrian version of Art Nouveau.

Fisher's Twirling Tower (Dubai)

Dubai resembles the Chicago Competition for its headquarters. David Fisher owes his rotating tower in Dubai to Loos' Tribune Tower.
