Vlad the Impaler Legend and true history

Family and origins Vlad Draculea (Tepeş) was born in Sighisoara,a medieval city in Transilvania

The Origin of surname „Drăculea“ and his nickname „Ţepeş“(the Impaler)



His father, Vlad the II-nd Dracul, joined the Dragon Order,something similar to the Malta Chivalry ,and his son Vlad the III-rd prefered to sign the documents with this surname.



He gained the name Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler) because his favourite method of punishing his enemies, impaling on a wooden stake.

Vlad the Ruler Vlad III ruled Wallachia three times in the XV-th century.  Vlad was known beyond Wallachia's borders as a feared fighter against the Turks and a ruthless ruler. 

Real facts 

He is seen by Romanians as a national hero, credited by historians as a key figure in the evolution of the country's independence from The Turkish Empire.

Images abroad He is seen in a leaque with the Devil by the Saxons, Turkish and Germans in the 1516th century,  He is seen cruel but just by the Russians. 

The end of true story… 

He was asasinated in december 1476. His body was beheaded and the head was sent to the Sultan, who put it in a pole. It is thought that „Drăculea“ would be buried at Snagov Monastery …

He sparked the imagination of Bram Stroker. He was bloodthirsty, but he was not a vampire .
